Lamb & Hayward opened its
second Christchurch funeral chapel in April 1991. Set in an
acre of landscaped grounds on the corner of Kerrs
and Pages Road, Linwood, the Kerrs Road Chapel
as it has come to be known, serves to offer a
convenient alternative in eastern and southern
Christchurch. |

Designed by Christchurch architect Don Donnithorne the
main aim was to create a less formal and less funereal
atmosphere, more in keeping with modern tastes.
Extensive use of warm New Zealand rimu
timber and superbly designed glass and windows give
a feeling of both space and intimacy.
Because it was purpose-built, the
Kerrs Road Chapel offers features which have become
important to modern style funerals.
The lighting and sound system incorporate
the latest technology, and the floor is magnetically
looped to accommodate hearing aids. Air conditioning
and undercover weather protection is also provided.
Full catering facilities are available.
The Kerrs Road Chapel provides a pleasant and comfortable
lounge facility for a gathering after the funeral. Off-street
car parking is also available.
The garden at Kerrs Road is a special
feature, carefully tended by Jim Robinson. It is a constant
source of colour and interest.
