Westpark Chapel, at 467 Wairakei
Road, Burnside, was opened in 1971. The decision
was made to move the Company's premises from the
inner city to the north west, partly because of
the population drift and partly because the Company
was outgrowing the original building site in Cashel
Street. |

Dedicated in June 1971 Westpark was considered to be
the most modern and innovative in the country and indeed
the building has withstood well the growth and changes
of the last thirty years.
The large chapel seats 200 comfortably.
Its sheer wall of glass at the eastern end looks directly
out to a tranquil courtyard garden, providing a restful
outlook for those attending a service. There is also
a smaller chapel for private or smaller services. Both
chapels are lined in rimu and is carpeted and furnished
in the Lamb & Hayward trademark colour, midnight
blue.
The William Lounge can easily accommodate more than 200 people with full catering facilities on-site.
Watercolours by Christchurch artist
Kelvin McMillan, paintings of local and South Island
scenes, are a feature of Westpark.
The car parking area, with capacity
for 100 cars, has recently been upgraded and trees and
lawns planted which, together with the lake, its fountain
and visiting ducks, have created a setting worthy of
the name Westpark.
