On Monday, February 2, 2026, passed away unexpectedly at Christchurch Public Hospital, surrounded by loving family. Dearly loved husband of Christine for 53 years. Cherished brother and brother-in-law of Ruth (deceased), Vernon and Pamela, Rosemarie and Glenn, and Josephine and Charles. A treasured uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews. Forever in our hearts and never forgotten. Messages may be addressed to: The family of the late Kelvin Grant, c/- P O Box 39001, Christchurch, 8545. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter would be appreciated and may be made online at chopperappeal.co.nz.
The funeral service for Kelvin will be held at Westpark, 467 Wairakei Road, Burnside, on Wednesday, February 11, at 2.00pm, followed by private cremation.
I feel like Uncle Kelvin was quiet and reserved, like his dad, but also could be cheeky, like his mum. He was always sitting back, listening and observing, so you wouldn't always realise how sharp and witty he was. His work ethic was incredible, right to the end, and it's apt that he died in his work clothes, as he would have wanted. A man of many talents and escapades - some I didn't even realise until hearing about them at his funeral. As Uncle Vernon said - solid, always there. He lived with loyalty and integrity and there is really nothing more important than this. Much love to Aunty Christine and all the family xxxHelen O'Brien
