Mortuary Care

From the moment your loved one enters our care, they are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. Our experienced team provides thoughtful mortuary care tailored to individual, cultural, and family wishes.

Depending on your wishes and circumstances, care may involve no embalming, partial embalming, or full embalming, alongside careful grooming and presentation. Whatever you choose, we maintain the same high standard of care throughout.

Understanding Mortuary Care

Care, dignity, and respect at every stage.

The type of mortuary care needed depends on several factors — including the time before the funeral, natural changes after death, cultural or religious beliefs, and personal wishes.

Embalming can help slow natural changes, reduce discolouration and odours, and support a peaceful final presentation. It isn’t legally required in New Zealand.

Our team will explain the options and recommend the most appropriate care, but the final decision is yours. In some cases, the casket may need to remain sealed for viewing.

No Embalming

When embalming isn’t chosen, your loved one will still receive careful and respectful attention. This includes washing, dressing, grooming, and placing them in their casket.

As natural changes occur after death, the possibility of viewing your loved one may depend on their condition and how much time has passed. Our team will explain what to expect and advise you on the options available.

'Partial’ Embalming

Partial embalming involves treating the thoracic and abdominal cavities to help slow some of the natural changes that occur after death.

This can help preserve your loved one’s condition for a limited period, although the results depend on their condition and the time before the funeral. In some circumstances, partial embalming may provide sufficient care without the need for full embalming.

Our team can explain when this option may be appropriate and what it involves.

‘Full’ Embalming

Full embalming involves treating the body through the arterial system, as well as the chest and abdominal cavities. Preservative fluids help slow natural changes after death, including discolouration and decomposition.

This offers a more comprehensive level of preservation and may be recommended depending on your loved one’s condition, the timing of the funeral, or arrangements for viewing.

The procedure is carried out by trained professionals, with the same dignity, respect, and care we provide at every stage.
