Obituary

(ONZM) 4.8.1936 – 26.12.2025. Died peacefully at Holly Lea. Dearly loved husband of Jane, loved father and father-in-law of Jo Ashton-Martyn and Hugh Martyn, Kate and Richard Bell, Sue Ashton, and Elizabeth Ashton. Proud grandfather of Henry and Yangtong, Madeleine and Ethan, Sam and Anna, Tom and Zoe, Charlotte and Ash, Georgie and Gabe, William, Harriet (deceased), Charles, and Max. Proud great-grandfather of seven.

A private family service has been held. A memorial service for Sid will be held at Westpark, 467 Wairakei Road, Burnside, on January 23, at 2.00pm.

My sincere condolences to the Ashton family. I was privileged to work with and alongside Sid for many years. Sid's wise counsel unquestioned integrity extensive networks and his support were among many of Sid's attributes that enabled me to secure governance roles within Ngai Tahu and NZ.
