I've just heard you died. you said you were sick. Loved you my man, you were everything a university lecturer was supposed to be ... handsome, funny, erudite and sceptical, arrogant and conceited But initially at least, off topic at the drop of a hat. I remember you saying to the students of a Tokugawa lecture, complaining about the lack of some specific facts - "read the bibliography I've supplied, everything you need to pass the exam is contained therein". so pleased to see you again recently
