I would like to send my sympathy to Maureen's family and to acknowledge her friendship and support at various times over many years. Maureen and I went through Pine Hill School and Dunedin North Intermediate together. I have a photo of our Pine Hill class of 1957 which I can send with this message. Pine Hill School was bursting at the seams in those days and our class was in the "new" block across the road in Lowe Street. We met again at Dunedin Teachers' College from 1968 - 70, then ended up being posted to our first teaching jobs at Roxburgh District High School at the start of 1971. Years later I was working for our teachers' union, NZEI, and Maureen was the NZEI staff rep at Roxburgh Area School. She was always a friendly, welcoming face when I called. She helped me a great deal in organising meetings at the school. We met for the last time about 10 years ago when we were both contemplating retirement. I was sorry to read that health issues meant she was unable to enjoy the longer retirement she certainly deserved. My thoughts are with Maureen's wider family.
