It is with a heavy heart, sorrow and deep gratitude that I write this tribute upon only learning today of Valerie’s passing. She was a dear friend whose kindness, warmth, and light touched so many lives, mine among them. During my years as an international student in Christchurch from 2016 to 2018, the moments I shared with Valerie over simple cups of coffee became some of the most precious memories of my life. Those quiet afternoons filled with laughter, gentle reflection, and stories about life were never just conversations. They were moments of grace. Valerie had a way of turning ordinary encounters into something meaningful, something that lingered in your heart long after. Valerie had a gift for making everyone feel seen, heard, and loved; a rare and beautiful kindness that radiated effortlessly from her. Her calm strength, her open heart, and the light in her smile brought comfort and hope to those around her. To Valerie’s beloved family and friends, please accept my deepest condolences. Your loss is shared by all of us who were blessed to know her. We grieve with you, and we hold you close in our thoughts and prayers. As we mourn, we also find solace in faith, reminding ourselves that love and goodness never truly die; they return to their Source. > “Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.” (Qur’an, 2:156) Valerie’s kindness, compassion, and generosity were reflections of divine mercy, small glimpses of God’s love in human form. Though she has returned to her Creator, her spirit remains alive in every heart she touched, every life she brightened, every memory she left behind. > “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4) > “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18) I pray that Valerie now rests in peace and eternal light; where there is no pain, no parting, only the pure joy of being fully loved. To Val’s dear family and friends: may God grant us strength, patience, and the gentle comfort that only time and faith can bring. And may we each honor her memory by living with the same grace, warmth, and generosity she gave so freely to others. Rest in peace, dearest Valerie. Your friendship will forever remain a cherished chapter in my life; a tender reminder that sometimes, even over a simple cup of coffee, hearts can meet and blessings can bloom.
