I worked for David at State Insurance in Christchurch for many years in the 1980's & 1990's. I have great memories of jumping into his Jaguar at lunch times and heading off for a game of squash some lunch times. We also completed some run funs together and tramps together with other State colleagues. I remember an occasion when a group of us did a tramp to Lake Daniells. After an overnight stay in the Manson Nicholls Hut situated next to the lake we walked the 8.4km back to our cars on the road. It was here David found he had left his car keys under his pillow back at the hut. David made the decision to run back to the hut to retrieve the keys and his daughter's stayed with us. We went to Maruia Springs Hotel to put our feet up after our tramp. It was little more than a couple of hours before David joined us having got his keys. He was amazing, with great focus and energy. I have great memories of David, Maria and his children and the wonderful times we shared together. My sincere condolences to his family at this very sad time. I am currently in Australia and regretfully will not be able to attend his Requiem Mass. Martin Loveday
