It is with profound sadness that we announce the tragic loss of Karl James West, who lost his life in a helicopter accident on September 8, 2026.

Much loved and devoted soulmate of Debbie, and adored father of Ami, and Ava. Cherished son of Lance and Lesley, and dearly loved son-in-law of Steve and Helen. Treasured brother and brother-in-law of Glenn and Vanessa, Amanda and Leigh, and Chris. A proud and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Karl touched the lives of everyone who knew him with his kindness, humour, generosity, and zest for life. Though his years were far too short, his life was full of love, adventure, friendship, and treasured memories.  He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.  Messages may be addressed to: The family of the late Karl West, c/- PO Box 39001, Christchurch 8545.
