Of Canterbury: Passed away at Burwood Hospital in the company of his two daughters Jay and Sarah on Friday, February 10, 2023, aged 81 years.  Brian is “Dad/Bri” to Juanita (Jay), and Sarah, Friend and father-in-law of Bede, Grandad to Luisa, Jaime, Manisha, Noah and Sienna, Great-Grandad of Luisa and Zeke’s baby due.  Son of Reginald (Reg) and Asta, brother of David, Yvonne, Elaine, Kevin and Graeme, Uncle and good friend of his many nieces and nephews, and their families.

Special thanks to Brian’s support crew, his Bethesda Care home family, and the absolute superstars of Christchurch and Burwood Hospitals who may recall Brian’s good-natured banter during his stays!  Jay and Sarah invite family and friends to honour Brian’s life with them at an informal gathering for afternoon tea (and perhaps even have a bowls “roll-up” too) at Embers, The Papanui Club, 310 Sawyers Arms Road on Thursday, February 16, from 3pm-7pm.  Brian’s explicit personal wish was to support medical research (Department of Anatomy, School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Otago), with no formal funeral ceremony.  Messages can be sent to: The Giles Family, c/- PO Box 37324, Christchurch 8245.
