On January 5, 2024, peacefully, at WesleyCare, Christchurch, aged 72 years. Deeply cherished and admired partner of Sue for 42 years, dearly loved by son Finn and partner Claire, and special ‘Geoff bang-bang’ to their children Arie, and Maeve. Treasured son of the late Hazel and Jack, a loving and beloved brother and brother-in-law to Kath and Nigel, Fiona and Alastair, Simon and Kathy, Angela and Gary, and a wonderful fun uncle to his nephews and nieces.  Admiral’s playmate. Geoff was loved and respected by so many friends and colleagues for his deep knowledge of the natural world of Aotearoa and his ability to gently guide others to appreciate and protect all that is special in our whenua. Heartfelt thanks to those dear friends who helped support Geoff as his Parkinsons symptoms made life more difficult. Later in the year a celebration of Geoff’s life will be held in Nelson along with the launch of his book on the natural history of Rangitoto ki te Tonga/D’Urville Island, a place so dear to his heart.
