Lillian ( my then 18 month old daughter) and I first met Becca in 2004 when she was judging a Wanaka Art competition. We quickly became friends and in the following years she became a significant part of our lives. Becca encouraged me to pursue a career in the visual arts, exhibiting my work in her beautiful gallery and occasionally I even worked for her. I had no family in New Zealand and Becca felt like a mother figure to us. We loved Becca, she adored Lilli and Lilli adored Becca, we both did. It was this experience that made Wanaka home. We had so many great times together, when we lived with Becca for a while, I fondly remember listening to The Black Seeds in the Summer Sun with Becca. ‘One by One’ was our favourite track, whenever I listen to that album I think of the happy times we spent together. You will forever be in our hearts, you were a wonderful person. This was such a joyous part of our lives, and I feel so privileged that we spent that time together…… Thank you xxx

Christmas at Grandmas

Posted by Carol Sharpe on September 15, 2023

Rebecca personified beauty, colour and grace. I had the pleasure of meeting her in Canada, with my dear friend Carol Sharpe, when we had Rebecca & her husband at the time for dinner in our home. I was lucky enough to visit when they lived in Hong Kong while there in 1991 on a teachers’ tour. She hosted with such grace and style. She was a wonderful person, so warm and curious, and I am very sorry for your loss. With deepest sympathy, Joanne Crawford Courtenay, BC Canada

We were celebrating Christmas in Toronto at Mom’s house. The entire family was there. My children, Yosef and Yana adored their Aunt Rebecca.

My children and I loved Rebecca. She was a beautiful, kind soul. We have wonderful memories of time spent with her in both Canada and New Zealand.
