Tena koutou Lesley and whanau. Poy Ling and I will be watching today from Wellington. I hope you are all aware of the love that enfolds you, not just in the church, but in the wider world, as we share your grief alongside you. The photo I have sent says so much about John. It's taken at our wedding, and it's actually taken in the bathroom of our reception venue in Hill Street, Wellington. Allan was very nervous about getting into his new kilt and all the accessories, and he had practised, watching many YouTube videos. That was all for nought as he nervously tried to wrangle straps and laces and this enormous woollen puzzle which was his kilt. Enter John, our beloved minister, centre of calm, and expert in the kilt! He helped Allan with his loving assurance that all will be well, and at the same time deftly got Allan's wedding outfit to rights. There was no other choice for our wedding celebrant. John brought himself to everything he did, and we felt safe, loved and supported on this momentous day. Lesley, I seem to remember your brought toetoe from your home's driveway for my bridal bouquet, to represent your and John's long and happy marriage. Today Poy Ling and I have a candle lit, and toetoe and bright flowers in a vase, with a little rosemary for remembrance. They are for you, as you mourn your loss. Haere ra, great soul.
