Printed big and bold on our mortuary wall is an inspiring quote written by Sir William Gladstone, circa 1880

“Show me the manner in which a nation cares for its dead and I will measure with mathematical exactness the tender mercies of its people, their respect for the laws of the land, and their loyalty to high ideals”.

These wise and wonderful words underpin our core values at Lamb & Hayward.

They are a daily reminder of the privilege and honour given to us when a family puts their trust in us.

And we never take that trust for granted.

Trust is a belief that someone or something is reliable, good and honest; to believe that something is true or correct.

We are proud to say that of the thousands of responses to our survey form received back from client families, 99% have answered YES to the question “Would you recommend L&H to others?”

Do they trust that we would deliver an excellent and professional service to their friends and family? YES

Do they trust that we do care, and that we will tend to them in a sincere and genuine way that demonstrates that very care? YES

And why do we care? Why have we been caring for and supporting mourning families for 95 years?

BECAUSE LIFE IS IMPORTANT

Because although we as individuals place different values on the things that are important to us, we each share the intrinsic need to remember a life that has been significant to us. Through various rituals or celebration these ceremonies also offer us the opportunity to reminisce, to give comfort to the living, and to enable us to make sense of our own mortality.

We do what we do, because life is important.

It is an unfortunate element of human nature that we often make wrong decisions when we are faced with a stressful event or decision.

Lamb & Hayward was a founding member of the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand, and we see this as vital in an unregulated industry.

FDANZ membership requires a funeral company to adhere to a code of conduct, and operate to a highly ethical standard. It also provides a disciplinary process with a complaints structure that ensures clients have a voice that will be heard, and acted upon should service fall short of expectations.

Not all companies are equal, but engaging an FDANZ member is an important step towards ensuring quality.
